Thousands of German fans have welcomed 2010 Eurovision Song Contest winner Lena Meyer-Landrut as she arrived at the airport of her hometown of Hannover. Meyer-Landrut, wearing jeans and flowers in her hair, waved to her fans and told them ``you guys are crazy, go inside, it's raining.'' The 19-year-old high school student, who won Saturday's song competition with the catchy pop song Satellite, was also welcomed by Lower Saxony's state governor, Christian Wulff.

But Lena’s charm offensive has taken not only Germany but all of Europe by storm, fostering feelings of oneness from Riga to Barcelona, writes the left-liberal Frankfurter Rundschau:

The Armenian sang about an apricot, the Albanian praised Jesus Christ, and the Ukrainian railed against nuclear Holocaust. But in the end, victory at the 55th annual Eurovision Song Contest went to Lena Meyer-Landrut, a 19-year old German whose song blurred the line between puppy love and psychotic obsession. "This is so absolutely awesome. I feel that this is not real," she said on stage after being handed a crystal microphone-shaped trophy in Oslo's Telenor Arena. "I'm kind of freaking out." Lena Meyer-Landrut, the 19-year-old German winner of the 55th Eurovision Song Contest, is to defend her title at next year's event - the first winner to do so since the Netherlands' Corry Brokken in 1957/1958.

The surprise decision was announced in a statement by Stefan Raab, who wrote and produced several tracks on Lena's debut studio set "My Cassette Player" (USFO/Universal) and produced the German TV show "Our Star For Oslo" in which the artist was chosen as Germany's 2010 Eurovision entry. Raab is a popular TV host and comedian in Germany, as well as a musician/producer and songwriter.

THE Eurovision Song Contest (Sunday, 7.30pm on SBS One) is 54 years old and remains as idiosyncratic and idiotic as ever. The format goes like this: first, we watch 25 different performances from 25 countries. Then we watch highlights of those 25 songs. Twice.
Then we spend a whole hour trying to stay awake during the judging process, which is usually about as gripping as Teflon.
And then finally, a winner is announced.

Germany still in 'Lena epidemic' after Eurovision win

Germany is still celebrating its win last weekend in the Eurovision Song Contest, when Lena sang her way to victory with "Satellite" and there's even talk of her representing the country again next year when it hosts the competition.
Anyone who followed the Eurovision Song Contest[/URL] held in the Norwegian capital Oslo last weekend surely knows by now that the winner was the German entry "Satellite" sung by Lena.

How Lena helped the new Germany get its mojo back

IF you want to understand how Europe's most powerful country has changed, just take a look at the pretty 19-year-old brunette who won the Eurovision last weekend and compare her to the only other German Eurovision winner, who claimed the prize 28 years ago with a sappy ballad calling for a little more peace in the world.

The most impartant part of the article

Not only has she signalled an end to a politically-motivated, 13-year losing streak for the "big four" countries who help fund the competition, but her winning song, Satellite, has reclaimed the contest's musical credibility.
With echoes of Lily Allen and Paloma Faith, it is the first contemporary pop hit Eurovision has produced in decades.

Remarks:

I think this is a great honour for a newcomer from Germany to be compared with one of the greatest singers from the UK. The last Eurovision victory for a big four country was the classic Love Shine A Light by Katrina and the Waves

Yay, a really great article! And very funny too!

Indeed, there were so many seductive women with manes of hair billowing into the wind, that you began to think the audience consisted entirely of wind machines.

:-D

But amidst all the hotpants, fireworks and questionable haircuts (I'm looking at you, Serbia) it was a lone 19-year-old pop singer who made the biggest impression.

Here is the most important question and answer to me:

Yes, a really good interview and... a role model for other interviewers I think!
As a reporter you don't have to get on Lenas nerves with stupid private questions. If she wants to tell sth. private (like about the serbian wedding) she will do, by her own. And if not you won't provoke sth. out of her, especially when you try it nevertheless. On the contrary!
This Interview shows the right way: a friendly atmosphere and normal "harmless" questions.

That´s a good one. It´s pretty long and informative, I even discovered one or two facts I didn´t know until now, the name of the arts-school she wantet to attend for example.
And it´s nice to read because she is not such a great star in GB. In articels in german press it´s either that she is praised as the biggest thing on earth or seen rather critical because of the exaggregated hype around her. But this is an unprejudiced and relaxed perception of an outsider.

Bit of history for you very first - C was invented within the 70s by Dennis Ritchie, by the 80s it had turn out to be very popular along with a book (known as the C programming language) was published by Ritchie and Kernighan which acted as an informal standard (known as K&R C.) Throughout the 80s ANSI were working towards a formal standard, (http://nowreddy65p.livejournal.com/1080.html) which appeared in 1989 called C89. Some finetuning was done in 1990 along with a new standard, C90 was published.

All good - until 1999, when another version of the standard was published, called C99. Why is this a problem? Well whilst compilers implement C90, none implement the whole of the C99 standard. You, (http://bettingchamp234.wetpaint.com) may possibly be thinking that C99 isn't all that important then - wrong, C99 allows us to do things such as declare variables throughout the code and use the C++ (//) style comment... but whilst many compilers do support these, none promise to support all aspects of the standard. I have often wondered why.

As an aside, there is some work towards a new standard, not sure if/when it will be released though - its informally called "C1x"

Poll results: Germany’s Lena had the best Eurovision comeback this decade with “Taken By a Stranger”

After winning the entire contest in 2010, Lena made the bold decision to try and defend her title the following year. It was highly unlikely she could win again. Numerically the only place to go was down. But performance-wise Lil’ Miss Lena went up, up, up. She morphed from an awkward teenager to a complete B.I.T.C.H. — a badass in total control of herself. Lena’s sex kitten realness helped her purr all the way to tenth place. “Taken By A Stranger” had it all. Lena wore an amazing obsidian jumpsuit and stalked the stage like a huntress. The song was dark, moody and underscored by a thumping beat, and there was a mesmerising light sequence to slice through the darkness.
