https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/why-lin-manuel-miranda-didnt-return-moana-2-mufasa-1236082915/

https://i.ibb.co/Vm1fNVX/IMG-2208.jpg (https://ibb.co/C2cRtBx)

„ “They’re so talented,” he said. “More than anything, what’s so thrilling is we hired Auli’i when she was 14 years old, and the stuff she’s singing in this new film is so just technically difficult, to see how far she’s come as a performer is really extraordinary.”

Moana 2 Composer Mark Mancina Talks One-Upping The Music Of The First Movie
by Owen Danoff

What was it like working with your songwriters, Emily Bear and Abigail Barlow, on this movie as opposed to Lin-Manuel Miranda? How different was that collaboration?

Mark Mancina: Emily is a really good keyboard player. Lin’s demos are very, very, very simple, which makes it great. His songs are simpler, his demos are simpler, and they're more open for me, whereas Emily does a lot of stuff in her demos. In that regard, it was a little bit trickier. [Emily and Abigail] use a lot more chord changes, and they do a lot of modulations. They're more complex when they write, which made the Pacific Island part of it a little harder because the Pacific Island music is really simple. In that regard, it was a little tricky, but the girls are really talented, and they're not full of themselves at all. They're young and they're eager, and they had respect for my work, so we got along great. It was super fun.

I have a blast with Lin. I just did Mufasa with him. He and I have a great working relationship, so that's already kind of established. [Moana 2] was new for me and new for the girls, and I think we worked out everything great. We got along great, and I really felt close to them. I really felt like we did something really good.

Polyphonic Techniques
Polyphony involves multiple independent melodic lines sung or played simultaneously
Considered one of the defining characteristics of Pacific Island music, particularly in Melanesia and Polynesia
Melanesian polyphony often features dense textures with up to 12 or more distinct parts
Singers enter at different times, creating a layered effect (Vanuatu water music)
Parts often based on repetitive melodic patterns (ostinatos) that interlock to create complex rhythms
Polynesian polyphony tends to have fewer parts (2-4) but with greater emphasis on harmony
Parallel thirds and sixths common in Samoan and Tongan vocal music
Call-and-response structures used to alternate between soloists and chorus
Micronesian music less polyphonic, with a greater focus on unison singing and rhythmic chanting
Polyphonic techniques passed down through oral tradition and learned through imitation and participation

Irgendwann wurde mir klar, dass es eigentlich „GOAT“ (Greatest of All Time) heißt.
