I agree mostly with Earplane. Nikki is very good, and nice to listen to, but not yet one of the great ones. Unfortunately, she has very few "competitors", which makes her abilities seem greater, and gives her less competition to push her to the next level. Her technique is excellent, but the soul is not yet coming through. She has not yet experienced life like an average person. But she's definitely someone to watch. I can see the comparison to Helena Fischer, although Helena will probably not get much better, whiile Nikki has more potential.

    OT:

    Helena Fischer
    AFAIK her name is Helene.

Still same family of words, though.

You're correct. That's what happens to old people. (You have time)

Also, Helene can lead to Leni, etc.

@US Fan Nikki Yanofsky is far beyond a category musical artist like Helene Fischer as I think you can find at every street corner in the US where it it quite a normal thing to study musical performance at University like Emily Bear's mother Andrea Bear at Michigan University.

Your argumentation does not seem to be stringent, on the one hand she has no real competion on the other hand there is no real soul and the has not reached the next lebel. Why do you think that she did not experienced normal life. She grew up on a nomal family, went to school etc.

How do you define normal life like an average person. Does it need to be on drugs or be drunk and in rehab to lead a life needed to show the soul.

Yes I read also some of the comments on youtube, some say "wow what soul", some say " there is no soul" . In this case I rely on the opinion of Quincy Jones, Herbie Hancock etc who worked with her.

Yes she is not on the front paper of every tabloit magazine of the US, and I think its good. Quincy Jones want to show his talents to be a real musician with a 50 year carreer not a flash in the pan, like Bieber, Gaga etc.

Put your headphones on, yes she is 19/20 and there cannot be the soul of a 60 year old Ella Fitzgerald. Do you know or somebody else the sound of a 19 year old Ella Fitzgerald or a Maria Callas in classical music.

Helene Fischer is in comparison to other german artists when you think of her voice really good but in comparison to Nikki Yanofsky it like High School basketball to NBA.

BTW the casting shows in th US are not better than Bohlens. Its totally rubbish.

Sorry, if not everything is grammatically correct-) Turn on the headphones!

P.S. I thought of a nice analogy. A german cook told in an interview a few years ago that many of his guests does not like the taste of real "Sauce Hollandaise" or Safran because they had only experienced the instant stuff before.

Nikki is Canadian, and is known in Canada, not in the US, so the tabloid thing does not apply. What I'm saying is that she seems to be known in Canada in a way similar to, but different from H Fischer.

The big issue is that she comes from a rich family, and seems to have been taken care of her whole life, and perhaps has gotten opportunities that the average child has not. This does not make her any less of a good singer, but very inexperienced in real life. The people that you mention who have been mentoring her have few other candidates to mentor. Jazz is just not doing well at the moment in the US, where it originated. I know a child who was a good singer who sang in the world's best opera. If his parents were not rich, it never could have happened. On the other hand, years ago, I knew jazz singers who sang at least as well as Nikki in small clubs, but who could not afford to continue.

I don't think I said anything about casting shows.

    Your grammar is fine.

@US Fan Justin Bieber is Canadian so what-)

Look for Nikkis 13yo raw performance of Airmail Special and see the reaction and faces of musicians. There had not been any Quincy Jones yet. And perhaps these kind of musical legends have only few young artists they support because there are only a few who are so good. If you look at Quincy's new artists its not about money, perhaps they have a musical backround but why not-)

If you follow this argumentation Mozart was good because his father was a well known musician relatively rich compared to the other citizens. The same with Clara Schumann(Wieck)...

Btw I updated my last post. Taste the real "Sauce Hollandaise".

And to the child who sang in the world best operas. He must be really good and should forget the money of his parents. If you are allowed to sing in Vienna, at the Scala, Met... nobody is interested in the money of your parents. Yes, they could support his education, but in this category there are many singers with poor backround.

Its a myth that money counts on this level!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leopold_Mozart

"Although Leopold is portrayed (notably by Halliwell 1998) as generally quite worried about money, the Mozart family by 1773 evidently felt prosperous enough to upgrade their living quarters. They left the home in the Getreidegasse where the children had been born and moved to rooms in the Tanzmeisterhaus ("Dancing-Master's House"), which had been the home of the recently deceased dancing master Franz Karl Gottlieb Speckner. As tenants of Speckner's cousin and heir Maria Anna Raab, the Mozarts had eight rooms, including the quite large room that Speckner had used for dancing lessons. This the Mozarts used for teaching, for domestic concerts, for storing keyboard instruments sold by Leopold, and for Bölzlschiessen, a form of recreation in which family and their guests shot airguns at humorously-designed paper targets.[17]"

And yes Amadeus Mozart's life likely would be much more comfortable in Germany although earnings were not his problem he spent too much-) But I think if he stayed in Mannheim were his music was much more appreciated than in narrow-minded Salzburg or Vienna....

    But we are off topic...-)

    @Eulenspiegel,

    http://www.theguardian.com/music/vid...scotland-video
